Rankin/Bass Dolls Are Everywhere!
| ||||
|
Dolls of the RANKIN/BASS Characters can be found almost anywhere these days! We went to
BROOKFIELD ZOO yesterday and to my surprise they had BUILD-A-BEAR type dolls of all the
RUDOLPH characters and some of them were nice! We picked up a YUKON and my son JOSH
stuffed him and put a star inside. Their version of these dolls are called ANIMALAND
and made by a company called NANCO. They have a small HANG TAG on them and what we liked
about the YUKON doll was the fact that he had a MAROON hat on. My son liked the BUMBLE
too. They were sold out of the RUDOLPH and CLARICE dolls. They also make a HERMEY, SAM
THE SNOWMAN and SANTA CLAUS. The SNOW MISER doll pictured left was sent by NOVA
GREENSOCKS! It was handmade from materials at WALMART. Thanks Nova!

Animation Legend Joseph Barbera Dies at age 95
Joe passed away of natural causes on Monday, December 18 2006. CLICK HERE to read the article at foxnews.com. I was lucky enough to spend some time with JOE BARBERA in his Hanna-Barbera office some years back. He was still passionate about his animation and excited about a recent mention of THE JETSONS in an article about technology. I gave him a copy of the MAD MONSTER PARTY soundtrack CD and he loved it. He remembered RANKIN/BASS with fondness and in fact, STEVE NAKAGAWA worked for both studios. I will never forget meeting BILL & JOE and their animation will live on forever! ~ Rick
Rudolph's Bernard Cowan!
BERNARD COWAN is the CBC legend that brought the voice cast together for the classic RANKIN/BASS special RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER! He also supervised the voice casts for the classic MARVEL CARTOONS of 1966 and the SPIDER-MAN series. BERNARD had a wonderful voice himself and was the announcer in the MARVEL CARTOONS and even did the roar of the BUMBLE!
His son Elliott is a director and producer
in Television Production and has worked in the field for over 20 years.
Elliott
and I have talked about putting together a MAKING OF RUDOLPH biography and interviewing
the entire RANKIN/BASS crew.
This project has fallen on deaf ears with the companies currently involved with the classic RANKIN/BASS specials BUT there is a possibility of a
WARNER BROTHERS RANKIN/BASS DVD box set in 2007 and we have our fingers crossed for that!
At any rate, Elliott has some wonderful, RARE RUDOLPH stuff including RARE demos, that
deserve to see the light of day. The shot of the guy at the piano is JULES BASS, with
LARRY D. MANN (Yukon) behind him and BERNARD just over Larry's shoulder.
